Developmental Disabilities

Developmental Disabilities:

There are many developmental disabilities. Mental health counselors typically treat those associated with young people’s learning, psychosocial, and psychological conditions. To name a few, they would include Attention Deficit Disorder, Asperger’s and other mild Autism Spectrum Disorders. Some conditions may include tics or involuntary movements. Oppositional Deficit Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder can be seen in young people as they grow up.

The most important thing to remember is if you suspect something with your young person, come talk with me and let’s determine if there is an issue before there become too many things a young person has to unlearn before improving. I start working with young people beginning with age 8 when developmental characteristics become treatable with the educational and cognitive-behavioral approach that I prefer.
